DBWT Mentoring - What do we really do?

DMC - Khanittha Jorgensen

Mentoring is extremely rewarding; it can help people advance in their careers and lives. I first talk to my team about how they are doing today and what their goals are in life, including their private lives, to connect with them. Sometimes I will sponsor them to ensure they will improve their goals. I am happy that I get the experience “to teach is to learn twice”.

It is tough to know what you want in life. Let’s talk to the experienced DMC team; perhaps you will find direction, unlock your potential, and focus on your career and life.

“You are only as big as the dreams you dare to live,” is a quote that strongly resonates with me. When I think about mentors, I envision individuals who guide us on our journey to identify, solidify, and start living our dreams. I was fortunate to grow up in a family that supported my dream of studying abroad and exploring the world. They encouraged me to leave Bulgaria and go to Germany at the age of 18 and since then I have lived in 11 countries. My personal journey, marked by the transformative power of learning and continuous development, led me to Thailand and provided me with 15 years of very diverse experience in healthcare. I firmly believe in the potential of people and that anything is possible with enough effort and sometimes with a bit of help.

I have been fortunate to encounter several individuals who served as my role models, helping me establish connections, providing growth opportunities, and teaching me how to get better. It is my intention to be this kind of mentor and coach for my team and anyone else whom I feel I can support in creating positive social impact.

As a piece of advice to all mentors, I would emphasize the importance of truly listening and helping people on THEIR way, even if it differs from what you may foresee for them. As I continue my mentoring journey, I’m reminded that dreams are the compass guiding us toward a brighter future. What dreams are you daring to live?

I always remember my first boss with a mentoring style, long time ago but having a significant impact on how I see work and being in charge of a young team.

He was the first to entrusting me with challenges and important management tasks when he was travelling, and it made me so proud and valued, I was just in my twenties.

So today, I also use trust and new challenges but at the same time, covering my young team’s backs whenever they need me, and I share my experiences and stories about my failures, learning curves and also, disappointments and where not to go again. I also like to create new opportunities for them that they can handle and have the experience of mastery, become confident and believe in themselves more and more after successfully managing tough jobs.

Mentoring for me is a joint journey to grow and succeed, and a joint experience of success that brings the team closer together every day. I also think today’s people management should go more into the direction of “People Mentoring”.

Practicing mentoring and coaching in daily work and circles can greatly contribute to personal and professional growth. One way to incorporate mentoring and coaching is by actively seeking opportunities to share knowledge and experiences with colleagues or team members. This can be done through informal conversations, scheduled mentoring sessions, or even by offering guidance and support during team meetings. Actively listening, asking open-ended questions, and providing constructive feedback are essential in cultivating in order to effectively mentor and coach others.

Additionally, creating a safe and supportive environment where individuals feel comfortable seeking guidance and sharing their challenges is crucial. By embracing a mentoring and coaching mindset, we can foster a culture of continuous learning and development within our work and social circles.

At BTCC we try to lead by example and encourage our associates to take charge of their future by attending events on their own, building their network, presenting themselves in a professional manner, and taking every opportunity to learn that is offered to them.

We are proud of their progress and we trust the youngest generation will carry on our work with passion and commitment to results for our members and for themselves.
